Last September, we posted an article in our very own Active Insights about trends in camping. When we wrote that article, based on what we were seeing, we predicted that camping participation in the U.S. would increase. And this week in a report from the National Park system, we see that our analysis is proving to be correct.
The National Park System, which is just coming off its National Park Week, reported that for the first three months of 2011, visits have increased nearly 4% — and that is in the winter months alone.
We also noted back in September that this growth should benefit the marketers of outdoor products and services required by enthusiasts. We look forward to monitoring this participation trend through the high volume months and we will also be watching for retail sales numbers and marketing results as well.
